Christian is the kind of skateboarder who doesn't give a shit about a photo or if there is ever a filmier around. Weather it's a american red curb or some sketchy tranny in Calexico, he down for a session!
Like all skateboarders he doesn't have sponsors or a 1000 views on BookFace. Everything he has is worked for and earned on his own. He's got a nine to five plus goes to school, so you can imagine the excitement he has when he is able to skateboard.
You can tell a lot about Christian when you watch him skate, like he'll skate the most rugged and in one word, FUCKED spot. At every spot he will get dusted and served, over and over again, but he always pushed on. Even is it means going to the same spot three days in a row trying just one trick for hours on end. He get it one way or another.
And like most skateboarders he has a crazy artistic passion that burns inside of him and the only way he can let some of that fire out is by lighting up a joint and breaking out the paintbrushes and smut magazines.
So i caught up with Crip so you can meet Crip..
Where did the name "Crippy" come from?
I have no fucking clue man, but I have a weird feeling that it might derive from when I snapped my leg in half. (laughs) Yeah! Pretty shitty one.
Do you feel like there are similarities between your skateboarding and your art work?
Uh yeah I think so, I don't use skateboarding in my art but I am defiantly influenced by skateboarding. I guess the sporadicalness of it, the disorganized of it, the wildness of it man! I'm pretty fucking un organized when it comes to anything, so those are major similarities right there.
Cause with the Art I'll just go and go and go.And if i try and plan or even start with an idea it'll always just fucking fail and look like shit. I pretty much just like to get inspiration from the moment. I'll be online listening to music, watching the TV, and looking through images. From there i'll just build something and from that it'll turn into something… I think... for the most part at least.
Have you ever blacked out and wake up to a painting you did that night?
No, not yet but I have woken up and fucked up a painting that was drying or something. When I drink and paint it always turns out all muddy and shitty, so it doesn't work. I think with painting it's strictly weed and coffee for me, but a brew or two isn't too bad either, I'm not going to lie haha!
What motivates you today in the Desert?
It's a spectrum of all walks of life friends, musicians, artist, skateboarders, friends. Pimp-C (T.C Graves), J-Huss (Jared Huss), Weffa ( Ryan Lueras), Miah (Jeremiah F), Zack
and Pat Pescador. (the above sketches are done by Patrick Jacob Pescador)
As far as music goes what gets you going in the morning?
Oh dude! First of all I am the number one mother fucking fan of the Pixies for life, forever. Along with the Velvet Underground! I listen to all types of shit Fleetwood Mack, Depeche Mood, the Breeders, Sonic Youth, Dyno. I listen to a lot of punk rock like Minute Men, Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag, T.S.O.L,
Any plans for the future?
Uh In life... just skate more, paint more, try and not fuck up. Be happy (laughs)
Any shout outs?
Yeah man, all my friends that i hang out with everyday, everyone knows who they are. everyone who helps me, everyone who believes in me, cause those are the people who keep me going. Stacy of course and to people who give me an opportunity
Incase you didn't already see these promos. Here they are again..
